Homework: The PEEL pre-writing, rough draft, and final copy are due on Friday. If students did not come to class today with their rough draft written, they must write it on another sheet of notebook paper in blue or black pen (as opposed to type it).
Today students are completing the peer editing checklist and then typing the final copy of their mini DBQ: how did the Scramble for Africa cause WWI?

The classes I saw today did the same thing my other classes did yesterday. Below are the rephrased directions that I had on my screen as a reference.
Homework: finish rough draft •Topic sentence: The Scramble for Africa caused World War I. •Point- include another sentence that supports your topic sentence •What is the ONE thing you want the reader to know about from the background essay? •Evidence- find TWO facts, quotes, statistics, etc. FROM THE DOCUMENTS. Cite the evidence (say where you got the information from) •Example: The background essay stated that “European nations showed national pride.” •Explanation- how does your evidence support your claim (topic sentence)? •Link- How does this all link back to the DBQ prompt? Why does this evidence matter? Use this as a part of your conclusion. •Don't say: “That is why …” or “Those are the reasons why …” *barf!!!* SUMMARIZE!!! There are no warm ups this week due to the awkward schedule. Today we looked at a chart showing the amount of money each country spent on weapons prior to WWI, completed a PEEL graphic organizer pre-writing assignment, then began working on the rough draft for the DBQ: How did the Scramble for Africa cause WWI?
Homework: finish rough draft Today we watched our CNN 10 video warm up then analyzed a map of Africa from 1909.
Homework: none Today we completed our warm ups, looked at a couple textbook pages about the scramble for Africa and finished other work that needed to be completed.
Homework: none Today we began a "mini DBQ" about the scramble for Africa. We started by analyzing a background essay to determine mood/context using textual evidence.
Homework: none Today we practice the parts of the APPARTS (ha!) strategy. Many students did not finish the primary document page, but it does NOT need to be done for homework. Happy Tuesday!
Homework: none My baby is sick today so I have a sub. Students received their new weekly warm up (#9) and then completed a page about European history using our new textbooks.
Homework: none Today we took the historical thinking vocabulary quiz and completed our CNN 10 video warm up.
Homework: none Today we finished the lunchroom fight activities.
Homework: finish the suspension report from the lunchroom fight and study for the vocabulary test that is tomorrow |
