Today students completed a 3-circle Venn diagram to compare and contrast the governments of Germany, the United Kingdom, and Russia. Tomorrow we will review for the vocabulary quiz, but don't forget to study your government comparison chart or Venn diagram too. See yesterday's post for copies of the vocabulary list and chart answer key.

Today we watched a CNN 10 to finish our weekly warmups, then we took our "pen pal" letters from Russia (Mr. Brink's class) to fill in the graphic organizer about Russia's government.
Homework: be studying your vocabulary for the quiz that will be at the end of next week Technology is great ... when it works. Yesterday I typed the notes into my blog and pressed "post" only to find out this morning that my whole submission didn't show up! After causing many of you anxiety (I am so sorry!) we worked on the letter today in class. Please do not stress over this! I then realized at the beginning of first block that I was going to have to be out today. If you have questions or issues we will address them tomorrow in class. Breathe- we will get through this last week and a half together! Make sure you're still looking over the vocabulary list you got on Tuesday because the vocabulary quiz will be at the end of next week. See you tomorrow!
Today we focused on Germany's government. Make sure you have all of the correct information in your graphic organizer (see below for the answers) and then have your letter to your pen pal completed WHEN YOU WALK INTO CLASS! Make sure you have all of the information in your letter and that it is neatly written (or typed) with correct spelling and punctuation. • Type of democracy- parliamentary • Head of State- president • Head of Government- chancellor • Legislative branch- bicameral, Bundesrat (citizens of the states elect members of this house, elected to represent the interests of each state), Bundestag (selects the chancellor, appointed by individual states and not voted on by general population) • Executive branch- Chancellor elected by Parliament, limited to 2 consecutive 5-year terms, head of military, takes care of day-to-day business of the nation • Role of citizen- voting age 18 but can vote in state elections at 16, vote for Bundestag members, elect representatives to the European Parliament • Personal freedoms- religion, expression, equality, press, protection of the family • Structure of economy and standard of living for citizens- strong market economy, 4th largest economy in the world in terms of GDP, largest economy in Europe, high standard of living due to high literacy rate German names Boy- Hans, Stefan, Heinrich, Klaus, Friedrich, Wilhelm, Wolfgang Girl- Gertrude, Helga, Miriam, Ursula, Gabriele, Gisela, Hildegard, Ingrid Homework: write a letter to your "pen pal" including ALL of the above information about Germany's government and economics as if you are a German student Today students got the teacher notes for our last topics this semester: European Government and Economics. We also did some vocabulary practice assignments to familiarize ourselves with essential terms for this unit. Homework: finish vocabulary practice assignments- you should do one of the options for each of the 20 words. Flashcards are not an option for the AC class.
