Yesterday we got our new weekly warm ups and our first set of "teacher notes" which will need to be kept for the remainder of the school year. These teacher notes are like your condensed textbook that you can write on. Also yesterday we discussed how to highlight using color for purpose and how to annotate text.
Today we began discussing factors that impact trade, including location, climate, and natural resources. We focused on Russia, and tomorrow we will finish with the United Kingdom and Germany. Homework: none Today we took the map test and finished the week's warm ups by watching a CNN10 video.

Today students took the 6th grade science SGM (Student Growth Measure) test on the computer. This is used as a pretest for the entire year to show what students already know and to set a baseline for what they learn this year. This same test will be taken at the end of the school year and the two scores will be compared to show their Student Growth Score. Neither will be a grade in the gradebook- it's for data collection and to guide our instruction. After the test, students could use the quizziz link to help them study for the map test that will be tomorrow. Homework: study for map test- know where the countries are, be able to match their capitals, and know where the physical features are Today we took some notes on the different physical features on our Europe maps. These facts will NOT be on the map test- just the maps (physical, political, and capitals). We also looked at some mnemonics for remembering the information on the maps. Homework: study for map test (Friday)- CLICK HERE for the quizziz practice link
On our warm ups today we reviewed relative location using physical features in Europe. Students then checked their answers to their political and physical maps of Europe that they worked on yesterday, and I briefly went over some "tricks" to help remember some of the information. Homework: study for map test this Friday (political- including capitals- AND physical) *See below for keys to the maps*
Today student got the new warm ups for week 3, and then labeled a political and physical map of Europe. Homework: finish the final copy of the SS in my daily life paragraph; you'll need to turn in assignment sheet, edited rough draft, and final copy
Today we watched the CNN10 video from Wednesday, finished and turned in the warm ups from this week, and then worked on the final copy of the Social Studies in My Daily Life paragraph.
Homework: none; if you need to study for the Map Skills retake you'll need to do that and complete the study guide as Monday is the last day I'm allowing retakes Today students swapped and peer edited each other's paragraphs about social studies in their daily lives. Tomorrow we will watch a CNN10 video from this week and work on the final draft.
Homework: none (unless you need to complete the study guide and study for the Map Skills test retake) Today we read a story called Weslandia about a boy who created his own civilization, and we discussed how he addressed each of the 5 strands of social studies. Students then began brainstorming their own examples of the 5 strands of social studies in their own lives. Tomorrow we will begin a writing assignment using these examples.
Homework: none; if you scored below a 70% on the map skills test, you should complete the study guide you were given and give it to me some time before Monday (August 19) in order to retake the test |
