Today we continued analyzing documents for our DBQ on how the Treaty of Versailles helped cause WWII. Students should have completed a say/mean/matter chart from Document A and then looked at information that will help with Document B. Tomorrow we'll complete Document B and begin looking at Document C.
Homework: none Today students were given a copy of the "teacher notes" that is like a review sheet of main ideas directly related to our standards. If students struggle with vocabulary or concepts in social studies, reviewing this document each night is recommended. The "teacher notes" pages need to be brought to class each day as often times they are needed to answer warm up questions.
We also began our county required DBQ: how did the Treaty of Versailles cause WWII? Students were given a packet and we completed the background information and document A analysis. Homework: none 1st, 2nd, 5th
Today we completed yesterday and today's warm up, turned that in, and read a NewsELA article about WWI. The CNN 10 video we watched can be found HERE. Homework: finish NewsELA article, if needed 4th Today we turned in the NewsELA article that was homework last night, then did the breakout! Homework: none Today we did a breakout activity involving collaboration and critical thinking skills surrounding the topics we have been discussing. We had a TIE between two classes, but my 4th block will be completing it tomorrow, so we shall see who the winning class will be!
BOLO (be on the look out) for a lock from the breakout. The lock went missing during 5th block, so please check your pockets, jacket, etc. to see if you accidentally took it with you. We need it returned so that future classes (my 4th tomorrow, but also our classes next year) can play the breakout too. If you find it, please take it to the media center. Thank you! Homework: AC class (4th) only- complete the NewsELA article Today we watched a video and read about trench warfare during WWI.
Homework: AC class only needs to finish their letter from the trenches. It should be at least 6 sentences long and include factual information. Feel free to be creative ;) I had a sub today- make sure your magazine cover is finished.
Today we got a new warm up sheet, discussed the causes of WWI (MAIN) and began a cover for National Geographic magazine about either the Scramble for Africa or Militarism and Nationalism.
Homework: magazine cover due Wednesday Today's schedule was extremely odd with many classes meeting for differing lengths of time. Students turned in their final copy of the mini DBQ paragraph and then we watched some of the videos about colonization and WWI under the "videos/links" tab of this website.
Homework: students who did not turn in their final copy need to bring it completed on Monday to avoid being ZAPped for Fun Friday next week Today the rest of the classes edited their rough draft and then worked on the final copy. The PEEL pre-writing, rough draft, and final copy are due TOMORROW at the beginning of class. The final copy may be typed (printed or emailed to me) or written in pen on notebook paper. Below is the editing checklist.
1. Circle the topic sentence. 2. Circle the concluding sentence. Does it give a summary AND include the topic sentence? If no, revision is needed. 3. Underline the facts/quotes/statistics taken from the sources 4. Highlight the names of the sources used (background essay, map by treaty, chart of money spent on weapons, textbook). Do you have at least TWO (3 for AC) facts/quotes/statistics WITH THE NAME OF THE SOURCE? If no, revision is needed. 5. Make notes in the margin about how well the paragraph explains how the selected facts/quotes/statistics supports the topic sentence. Offer suggestions for improvement as needed. Homework: finish final copy of Scramble for Africa paragraph |
